The Algerian Central Pharmacy was established in 1969 by a presidential decree, entrusting it the task of ensuring the state monopoly on the import, manufacture and marketing of Pharmaceuticals for Human Use. As part of its mission of production, it created in 1971 the production unit of El Harrach and acquired in two stages (1971 and 1975) the units of BIOTIC and PHARMAL .
Following the restructuring of the Algerian Central Pharmacy, its production branch was set as a National Pharmaceutical production Company under the Decree 82/161, issued in April 1982.
The National Pharmaceutical Production Company aimed at securing monopoly in the production and distribution of drugs, similar products and reagents as well as supplying sufficiently and regularly the Algerian market.
The company changed its name in 1985 to become SAIDAL. In 1989, following the implementation of economic reforms, SAIDAL turned into an economic public company with the autonomy of management. It was chosen among the first national companies to acquire the status of a joint stock company.
In 1993, changes were made to the Statute of the Company enabling it to participate in all industrial or commercial operations related to the corporate purpose, through the creation of new companies or subsidiaries.
In February 1999: SAIDAL GROUP proceeded to open up its capital through public offering. The amount of the offer was about 20 % of the share capital of the group or 500 million DA, divided into 02 million shares.
In September 1999: Fulfilling the admission requirements prescribed by the general regulations of the stock exchange market of Algiers, the equity security of SAIDAL was introduced to official listing. (The issue price was 800 AD)
